About
Kris' Pronouns refers to a series of memes and discourse about Deltarune protagonist Kris' pronouns and the tendency for people online, especially new players, to misgender Kris. Throughout the game, Kris is referred to only with they/them pronouns, possibly suggesting that they are non-binary. Some believe Kris is referred to this way so players of any gender identity can more closely relate to the character. Discourse and memes about Kris' pronouns began as early as November 2018, a month after the game's first chapter was released. The discourse became increasingly popularized throughout the 2020s, seeing a boost in attention in 2025 following the release of Deltarune Chapters 1-4.
Origin
Two days after the release of Deltarune: Chapter One on November 2nd, 2018, Amino Apps[1] user nyoompoomps posted a screenshot from the game showing Susie using the pronoun "them" to refer to Kris, the protagonist. The post reads, "Wow it’s so great that Deltarune has a nonbinary protagonist!" and garnered over 30 likes and roughly nine comments in seven years. This is the earliest known post to reference Kris' they/them pronouns.

Some of the comments under the post debate whether or not Kris is canonically non-binary. For example, Amino Apps user Flower writes:
"I would not say they are canonically nonbinary. I'm pretty sure Toby Fox wants us to imagine the characters as boy or girl or neither. Whatever we decide. Using pronouns like 'Them' is just a way of making so nothing is truly canonical… At least, that is how I see it."
